I am on my way to what I still think of as my home – my parents’ house in North Yorkshire where I grew up. My mum is just starting to receive end of life care. I don’t know how much time she has left. She isn’t ill, her body is simply in decline from old age. My Dad is distraught. They have been married for 69 years. There’s not much I can do, but they are together in their home.

Thank you so much for this update my friend! You see, your mother popped into my head about 4-5 days ago while I was baking in the kitchen. I just kept thinking of her and you… and was going to email you to see how she was – as I haven’t been able to stop thinking of you and your parents all weekend and into this week. Alas, time got away from me and I hadn’t emailed you… but this morning this post was in my email. I am thinking of you and your family this week fondly and will pray for comfort for all. Love from across the pond and many miles……..

You are doing what you can do best. Be there, let them talk-no matter where the conversation goes. Indulge them. Let everyone feel what they are feeling, without fear or embarrasment. Do things they will enjoy, not just what needs doing. Allow those that need solititude, space and time.
